So my history in and with wine isn't all that vast nor interesting. I have only gotten into drinking wine over the last several months to the point where I am truly starting to enjoy it for its complexity and taste. So far, I have been drawn to red wines more so than white ones because I find some white wines awfully sweet to enjoy more than a glass or two. Besides, how can you waste a bottle? My dad used to own a liquor store which also sold wines so there are boxes stuffed with quality wine in our basement and every time I come back to Blacksburg I always end up grabbing a few to sample. In addition to sampling these quality wines, I have dropped by Boudreaux's Wine Wednesdays to sample half-priced wines with their food specials; which is always a good night. Besides these experiences with quality wines I have had my share of terrible experiences with not so quality wines. Franzia and Carlo Rossi do not do well for a person looking to enjoy plenty of alcohol on a weekend night, definitely not so on the morning after.
Through this class I am hoping to gain a start in becoming a vino. I want to know where wine comes from, how it each type is made and how geography affects the grape and taste of the wine. Being forced to drink more wine isn't a bad thing either! I enjoy drinking wine with Italian food and look forward to figuring out which wines pair great with all sorts of international food.
That's all for my first post! I'll leave you something to ponder till the next..
“Accept what life offers you and try to drink from every cup. All wines should be tasted; some should only be sipped, but with others, drink the whole bottle.”
